Should I choose mulch or decorative rock?
Mulch looks warmer, feeds the soil as it breaks down and costs less up front, but needs refreshing each year. Rock lasts for years with little upkeep but doesn't improve the soil and is harder to change later. We'll talk through which suits your beds.
How deep should mulch be?
Depth is confirmed during your estimate based on the bed and material chosen.
How often does mulch need replacing?
Most Central Indiana beds get a refresh once a year, usually in spring. Colour fades and the bottom layer breaks down into the soil, which is exactly what you want it to do.
Can you remove old mulch or rock first?
Removal of old material can be included where agreed in the estimate. We'll flag it when we quote.
Do you plant trees and flowers as well as install beds?
Yes. Flower, shrub and tree planting is part of this service, and it's usually best done at the same time as a bed refresh so everything is finished in one visit.
What time of year is best for bed work?
Spring and fall are ideal for planting, but bed edging, mulch and rock installation can be done any time the ground isn't frozen.
